The drive takes about 45 minutes without stops. Plan for 2 hours with stops at Slide Rock, the Oak Creek Vista overlook, and the various swimming pullouts along the creek. June traffic moves slowly. Embrace the pace. Roll down the windows. Let the canyon air do its work.
7. Fish the White Mountain Lakes
The White Mountains hold dozens of high-elevation lakes stocked with rainbow trout, brown trout, and brook trout. Woodland Lake in Pinetop-Lakeside offers easy access with a paved walking trail. Show Low Lake provides boat rentals and fishing docks. Big Lake sits at 7,000 feet with cold water and solid trout fishing.

The experience runs select nights in June. Reservations are required. Dinner includes barbecue brisket, beans, cornbread, and dessert. Tickets cost approximately 45 to 60 per adult. Williams sits at 6,700 feet, so June evenings require a light jacket.
11. Paddleboard Lake Powell in Late June
Lake Powell stretches across the Utah-Arizona border. The Arizona side around Page offers some of the most dramatic paddling in the Southwest. Glen Canyon National Recreation Area manages the lake. Launch from Antelope Point Marina or Wahweap Marina.

A day pass costs $30 per vehicle for Glen Canyon. The views of red canyon walls rising from blue water are worth every dollar.
12. Drive the Salt River Canyon on Highway 60
Highway 60 east of Globe drops into the Salt River Canyon. This 2,000-foot-deep gorge cuts through volcanic rock and ancient lava flows. The road clings to the canyon wall with tight switchbacks and dramatic overlooks.
The drive from Globe to Show Low takes about 90 minutes without stops. Plan for 3 hours with stops at the main overlook at milepost 272 and the rest area at the canyon bottom.
